Pregnancy and Birth

If you wish to use herbs during your pregnancy to prepare your body and mind for a natural birth minimizing the need for intervention or if you have any other question regarding the safe use of herbs during pregnancy, please get in contact.

A personal experience of holistic childbirth preparation

During my pregnancy (for my growing self and degree dissertation) I studied the physiology of labour in detail, particularly the preparation and function of the uterine muscle. I then looked at all the research and hypothesised the effects that herbs could have upon the uterine muscle.

Being of similar build to my mother (I was her firstborn) I was preparing to have a long wait after my due date and a long labour as she had been 10 days late with me and was in labour for 36 hours. In retrospect I believe it is quite significant that I gave birth on my due date and had an easy labour with the “full on” bit lasting only 6 hours.

I truly believe that my positive birth experience was down to a combination of the herbs (raspberry leaf, tinctures, etc..), the Yoga, my inbuilt fearlessness of childbirth (through a childhood surrounded by positive birthing).

Although in my practice I do not have the space to work with women during labour I do work along side the  Da-a-Luz midwives and doulas who have specially formulated herbal kits that may be used during labour and will contact me by phone if they need advise on dosage in individual situations, etc... Please ask if you wish to have more information about the use of these herbs.

"Preparation is key to a good birth. Sophie's "Prepare to Pop" mixture is amazing; I had strong, steady contractions during my labour and an uncomplicated birth. My midwife was amazed at how quickly my uterus contracted back into my pelvis. Raspberry leaf tea is great but you need to take alot and for a long time whereas these tinctures are quick, easy and effective." Ruth (mother of beautiful Gloria!)
